Process: A “Timeline” of the design process and decision making to
increase space for Durham Meeting. The construction schedule
. Pictures: Photos from meeting “work days” during March,
April and May. Construction was completed in June. We began using the new building in July. This artistic
view, prepared by one of Hunt McKinnon’s architecture students in
2003, gave us a compelling image of the future building before
construction was begun. |
New Meeting
Building
Durham Monthly Meeting completed a new building between November 2003 and June 2004. Placed in the back of the lot, this two-floor building houses, on the upper floor, both the new meeting room and an area for fellowship with kitchen and 2 classrooms. The meeting grounds comprises 2 additional buildings: 1) The original meetinghouse, completed in 1956, will now be converted into classroom space. 2) The Durham Early School building provides space for Durham Meeting’s first day school as well. The upper floor is on the same level as both of the other buildings. There are two connectors from the playground to the porch. Our new meeting room is on the left (South) side of the building, and the recreation area rooms are on the right. The lower floor is currently unfinished space. Its use will be decided in the future.
