Mission: Oversee the curriculum, staffing and
implementation of religious education programs and special activities for the
Meeting’s children and youth.
Number of
members: Child Education comprises 3
distinct committees: First Day School, Teen Group, and Junior Meeting. Leadership for each is appointed by the Nominating Committee as follows:

One convener (or two
co-conveners) of the First Day School committee

3-6 Teen Group Leaders
·
1-2 Junior Meeting

Term of
Commitment: Appointed members serve staggered three-year
terms. Members may not serve
consecutive terms.
Duties (First Day School):
·
Develop goals for the
first day school curriculum.
·
Plan class structure
and age break-down.
·
Appoint teachers and
lead teachers for each age group.
·
Recommend to the clerk
a childcare person to be hired by the Meeting and oversee their duties.
·
Help teachers with
materials and lesson plans.
·
Take responsibility for
family-oriented holiday forums throughout the year.
·
Appoint summer program coordinator.
·
Provide list of young
attenders to the Communications Committee from time to time.
Duties
(Teen Group leaders):
·
Plan first day school
program and special activities for meeting children in this age group.
·
Recruit additional
members if needed.
Duties (Junior Meeting leaders):
·
Oversee the Junior
Meeting (monthly meeting for youth, held on same first day as adult meeting for
business).
Qualifications: Respect,
affection, and concern for children with more than baby-sitting in mind. Coordinators should know many members and attenders
and should be familiar with Quaker traditions. Teachers and coordinators should
be willing to become familiar with curriculum materials for Friends' religious
education.
Frequency
of Commitment: The first day school
committee meets twice each year, or more
often if needed.
