Mission: Members oversee the appropriate use of the
publication and broadcast media available to us for communications between the
Meeting and its members and attenders.
Number of
members: Four to six members, including Newsletter Editor,
Directory Coordinator, and Mailing List Coordinator. Others may be asked to assist with committee projects as needed.
Term of
Commitment: One year, but may be reappointed.
Duties: The
Communications Committee:

appoints the Editor of
the Meeting’s newsletter,
·
appoints a Mailing List
Coordinator and a Directory Coordinator as needed.
·
maintains lists of
members and attenders of Durham Monthly Meeting (including Meeting children and
their ages),
·
when required, provides
current phone and address lists to Meeting committees (Nominating, Finance),
and to the clerk (to prepare the annual report to Yearly Meeting),
·
publishes a monthly
Newsletter and distributes it to Durham Friends, and
·
publishes an annual
Directory of the Durham Monthly Meeting and distributes it to active members
and attenders.
·
oversees other
publishing and broadcast communications on behalf of the Meeting including
those using electronic media such as the internet.
The
Newsletter reports to Durham Friends the minutes of the most recent business
meeting and informs them of upcoming events and other announcements. The Committee also assists in the
distribution to Durham Friends of pamphlets and other documents as the need
arises. The committee works closely
with:

the Recording Clerk,
who prepares the minutes for inclusion in each Newsletter;
·
the Recorder, who
maintains official lists of members of Durham Monthly Meeting;
·
the Oversight
Committee, who identifies attenders and offers to inform them about Quaker
beliefs and practices;
·
the First Day School
Coordinators, who need to know the ages and names of children likely to attend
First Day School;
·
the Meetinghouse
Scheduler, who also maintains a calendar of Meeting events.
Printed copies of the current Directory should be available at the
meetinghouse for members and attenders to keep. Copies of recent Newsletters should be available for new
attenders and visitors.
Qualifications: Journalistic
skills and a willingness to serve the Meeting community. Computer skills are useful for the necessary
word processing, communications, and data base management.
