Nominating Committee
Mission: The nominating
committee endeavors to match the gifts of members and attenders with the many
roles available for service to the meeting community. This committee is also asked to reflect, from time to time, on
the need for changes in the organization of meeting committees and leadership
roles.
Number of
members: Four, serving staggered terms. Two new members are presented for approval
to business meeting in 2nd month by the ad hoc “naming” committee.
This ad hoc committee must be appointed during a prior business
meeting.
Term of
Commitment: Staggered two-year terms beginning at the rise of
meeting in 2nd month. Members may not serve consecutive terms.
Duties: The
Nominating Committee will bring forward to business meeting the names of
suitable members or attenders for approval as positions within the Meeting
become open. Committee members should consult with members and conveners of
standing committees with openings to learn of their needs. It is important that
the Nominating Committee anticipate openings and be ready with possible
candidates so as not to delay the business of the Meeting. While many committees have no limit on
length of service, the Nominating Committee shall consider whether the work of
a committee would be enhanced by replacing long-standing members. The Committee shall confirm that those with
long-term commitments agree to continue serving. Care should be taken to identify people able and willing to convene each committee so that committee
activity begins promptly in the Fall.
Most new appointments begin in 9th
month. The Committee is expected to
present these nominations to meeting for business in 5th
month for possible revision and approval in 6th month.
Qualifications: Members
should be familiar with Meeting members and regular attenders, and with the
committee structure of Durham Meeting.
The Nominating Committee must include members with long enough
experience in this meeting to know most members and attenders well.
Frequency
of Commitment: As called by the clerk of Nominating Committee
(approximately 4 to 6 meetings in the Spring to propose the main slate of
nominees, plus 1 to 2 additional
meetings to fill new positions, fill vacancies and review position and
committee descriptions in the Handbook).
