Oversight Committee
Mission: The Oversight Committee has the
responsibility to foster community among the members and attenders of the
Meeting, and to organize and oversee activities which help Friends to better
know and care for one another.
Number of
members: At least six appointed by Nominating Committee plus
the Assistant Clerk or Co-clerk, ex
officio.
Term of
Commitment: Members serve staggered two-year terms.
Duties: The committee will:

work closely with the
Committee of Ministry & Counsel to coordinate activities of the Meeting;
·
facilitate the service,
spiritual, and social activities of the Meeting;
·
help interested new
attenders to obtain more information about the Religious Society of Friends and
about the Durham Meeting;
·
coordinate the
Meeting's efforts to provide food, child care, and other service and aid to
members of the Meeting community in their times of distress and hardship;
·
appoint Welcoming
Committees to arrange gatherings where Friends can become better acquainted
with each new or transferring member;
·
appoint an Oversight
Committee to assist each couple who will be married under the care of the
Meeting, after their Clearness Committee has met and the Meeting has approved
their marriage;
·
In the event of the
death of a member or associate of the Meeting, the Committee should extend the
sympathy of the Meeting, and with the help of other Friends, will give help and
advice regarding memorial or funeral arrangements.

appoint visitors to
minister to patients at Duke Medical Center, Durham Regional Hospital and other
area hospitals as needed.
Qualifications: An
active concern for the Meeting, and a feeling of responsibility for the welfare
of its members and attenders.
Frequency
of Commitment: Monthly, with additional called meetings as needed.
